Job summary

St. Mark's Episcopal School in the West University area of Houston is seeking an after school staff member for the 2:30 pm–6:00 pm shift, Monday through Friday.

This part-time role supports students with mentorship, safety, and enrichment during aftercare, clubs, and camp programming. Responsibilities include supervising 10–20 students with a co-teacher, leading activities, managing check-in/out, monitoring allergies, and fostering a respectful, engaging environment.

Responsibilities

• Work from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday–Friday, with potential additional hours during holidays.
• Oversee 10–20 students along with a co-teacher.
• Actively engage students, lead games, music, and enrichment activities.
• Check in/out students and monitor basic medical information such as allergies.
• Maintain a clean and orderly classroom, playground, and shared spaces.
• Provide social-emotional support and use redirection techniques as needed.

Job description

After School Staff uses their passion for child development to provide mentorship, safety, and enrichment to students during our aftercare, clubs, and camp programming. This part-time position is located at St. Mark's Episcopal School in the West University neighborhood of Houston, Texas.

Pay Range: $15 - $21 per hour

Duties:

• Be able to consistently work from 2:30 pm- 6 pm, Monday-Friday.
• Opportunity for additional hours during the school's Staycation and Seasonal Camps during holidays off from school, which are half-day and all-day hours.
• Responsible for overseeing 10-20 students along with a co-teacher.
• Be actively engaged! Interact with students, play music, develop challenges, lead games, and ensure strolling supervision.
• Have snacks and activities ready for students prior to their arrival to aftercare.
• Responsible for checking in/out students and staying informed about basic medical information such as allergies.
• Produce an encouraging environment that ensures active student participation in homework and reading time.
• Ensure students are being responsible and respectful to both instructors and fellow classmates.
• Ensure classroom, playground, and shared spaces are clean and reset upon departure from the area.
• Provide social-emotional support to students throughout the day and utilize Conscious Discipline measures for redirection and behavior management.
• Report concerns, incidents, emergencies, and supply requests to Extended Care leadership.
• Follow all school rules and expectations.
• Be responsible for checking in/out all assigned technology.
• Navigate a constantly moving environment with moderate supervision.
• Walking and standing for long periods.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
• Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
