Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Education, in partnership with Nicholas County Schools, seeks a Bus Operator for the after‑school program at Birch River Elementary to transport students safely. You will operate school buses, perform pre/post inspections, and maintain student rosters while adhering to WVDE policies.

A valid WV CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements is required. CPR/First Aid certification, completion of the WV School Bus Safety program, and a post‑offer physical and drug

Qualifications

• Must hold WV CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Complete WV School Bus Safety program and pass online certification and skills tests.
• Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Pass a physical examination and drug screening per policy.

Responsibilities

• Operate school buses and other transportation vehicles as required by WV regulations.
• Maintain route schedules and student rosters; ensure safety of passengers.
• Perform pre/post inspections and report malfunctions promptly.
• Communicate with students, parents, school officials, and supervisors.
• Attend to safety drills and maintain vehicle cleanliness and proper equipment.
