Responsibilities

  • Oversees program staff, operations, and ensures services meet established timeframes and compliance.
  • Conducts staff evaluations and development plans with Program Manager and HR.
  • Leads weekly and monthly team meetings to discuss classroom management and lesson planning.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor on updates and needs.
  • Coordinates outreach to the community and recruits participants.
  • Prepares attendance, activities, and program reports for internal and external reporting.
  • Provides weekly supervision, feedback, and goal setting to staff.
  • Supports all team members and provides feedback as needed.
  • Collaborates on monthly all-staff professional development workshops/seminars.
  • Collaborates with school leaders to align with student achievement goals.
  • Monitors program compliance, including registrations, staff documents, ratios, and IDs.
  • Performs other duties to ensure efficient program functioning.

Summary

New York Edge is seeking a passionate, mission-driven team-builder to fill the After School Program Director role. In this full-time role, you will be accountable for the growth, quality, and success of the assigned after-school program operation, its students, and staff. The primary responsibility of the Program Director is to manage the day-to‑time operations to ensure that New York Edge quality standards and guidelines are met and that the program meets all contract requirements. You will foster an atmosphere of fun and learning, utilizing a broad range of sports and arts-related activities where the concept of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship can flourish and serve as a role model to youth.

Monday-Friday (Days/shifts vary depending on site needs)

This role requires you to be in person.

Pay

$58,500 - $62,500 (salary offer will be commensurate with experience and education)

Essential Job Functions
  • Oversees program staff, program operations, services, and implements programs and/or processes to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance.
  • Conducts staff performance evaluations and development plans with the Program Manager and Human Resources Department.
  • Provides weekly and monthly team meetings that encourage opportunities for team feedback and discussions about classroom management, lesson planning, writing prompts, and social-emotional learning.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor on program updates, progress, and needs.
  • Coordinates outreach to the community and presents on the program to actively recruit participants.
  • Prepares various documents and reports (e.g., attendance, daily activities, daily program content, program design, etc.) for internal and external reporting.
  • Provides weekly individual supervision to each staff member with feedback, goal setting, and assessment of competencies in the role.
  • Supports all team members, including in-direct reports, and provides feedback as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Program Manager, Borough Director, and New York Edge Curriculum and Training Departments to develop and implement monthly all-staff professional development workshops/seminars.
  • Collaborates with the Principal and Assistant Principals on program delivery to align with goals with student achievement and performance.
  • Monitors and ensures all program compliance, including but not limited to student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, and building permits.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the center and its programs.
Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work

At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field preferred

Experience Requirement

Minimum of three (3) years experience in urban education, youth development or community organizing with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth & adolescents in New York City.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow, while maintaining a positive, patient and calm demeanor, and establishing a positive team spirit with staff, students, and entire school community.
  • Strong understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person, virtually and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand
  • Must be able to articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support for school and New York Edge staff members to successfully deliver on objectives.
  • Knowledge of after-school programs, supervising staff, and program planning.
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially risky or difficult situations.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but is required to interact with the community at-large during events, outreach, and trips.

May be required to walk up and down stairs, lift or move objects/materials as needed.

Work hours will be consistent Monday through Friday with potential for some weekend or evening scheduled activities or events.

At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
