Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division in Detroit is seeking an after-school program assistant to support tutoring and mentoring for youth in grades K-8. The role involves facilitating activities, helping with meals, and creating a positive, learning-focused environment after school hours.

You will assist with planning and coordinating age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities, contribute to a safe program, and support youth development and teamwork among attendees.

Qualifications

• High School diploma / GED or equivalent.
• Some college in a related field preferred.
• 1 year experience working with youth in a tutoring capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Tutoring youth in core academic subjects and completion of daily schoolwork.
• Leading and coordinating game time activities for youth.

Assist in overall responsibilities for the after-school program through tutoring and mentoring youth, grades K-8.

Essential Responsibilities

• Tutoring youth in core academic subjects, completion of daily schoolwork and after-school program lessons
• Leading and/or coordinating game time activities for youth
• Assisting in other after-school activities
• Creating a positive environment that is conducive to learning
• Assist with meal preparation for after-school youth attendees
• Leading in planning and/or coordinating age-appropriate recreational activities for both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.
• Run unpaid vendor list after last check run for each month.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Some college in a related field preferred
• 1 years' experience working with youth in a tutoring type of capacity, preferred

• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple job-related assignments.
• Ability to make decisions within the limits of authority
• Ability to provide conflict resolution with youth in a positive, yet effective manner

Computer Skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
• Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates And Licenses

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
• Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
