Job summary

Salt Lake County Youth Services is seeking Afterschool Program Peer Mentors to support youth at partner schools. You will help create a safe, engaging environment after school with activities in STEM, arts, and healthy living.

Responsibilities include guiding groups of up to 15 and using Positive Behavior Support techniques. Schedule varies by location, with afternoons Monday through Thursday and some Friday hours during the school year.

Qualifications

Salt Lake County Youth Services provides support to schools and families through Afterschool Programs, Summer Programming, and Parental Support. Our programs are offered on site at schools located in Kearns, Magna, West Valley City, and Millcreek.

Our goals are to keep kids safe, provide healthy adult role models, teach new skills, and give youth confidence in themselves through a variety of enrichment activities. These goals are achieved by working closely with school administration and ensuring our staff are active participants in helping to make positive changes within the communities served.

What You'll Do Here

As an Afterschool Program Peer Mentor your team will work directly with youth from diverse backgrounds in a school setting to provide a safe and healthy environment by:

  • Being a peer mentor to youth using Positive Behavior Support techniques while assisting with guiding groups of up to 15 youth.
  • Assist with daily activities based on school day support and enrichment focus areas including STEM, Arts and Culture, Character Education, Healthy Living, and College and Career Exploration resulting in the enrichment of the youth's education and daily life activities.

What We Need from You

Must be at least 15 years of age.

What We Offer

Opportunity to develop skills in youth mentorship, assisting with the facilitation of activities, while providing safe and healthy environments. You will gain invaluable work experience in youth development, conflict resolution, engaging appropriately with youth, youth services programs and local resources, and programming and quality assurance.

Pay: $13.65 - $14.50 per hour *

Tier 1 = No experience ($13.65/hr.)

Tier 2 = * Potential increase after 90 days and/or upon completion of up to 10 hours of required trainings / Temp PDP Started. ($14.00/hr.)

Tier 3 = * 1+ year experience and upon completion of ALL required trainings / 3 or above on Temp PDP ($14.50/hr.)

Schedule: Varies based on location following a school year calendar. School year are afternoons Monday-Thursday for 3+ hours, plus planning, training and prep time for about 15-20 hours a week. Monday -- Thursday 2:00pm -- 5:30pm and Fridays 12:00pm -- 4:00pm, hours may vary depending upon program.
