Job Shift: M - F 1pm - 6pm

Description

Position Purpose:

After School Instructors may work with a group of up to 20 students from TK - 8th grade with daily tasks consisting of but not limited to: tutoring, homework assistance, and educational enrichment. Instructors must have high energy, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to maintain a fun and organized atmosphere. After School Instructors report to the Site Coordinator at their respective site.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides tutoring and homework assistance to help students meet national standards.
  • Collaborates with Site Coordinator to create and implement all Catalyst ELO-P curriculum, rules, and procedures, including new curriculum that may be introduced during the school year.
  • Provides students with educational enrichment which may include positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities, and the ability to teach youth positive life skills.
  • Works collaboratively with staff members at site.
  • Tracks students' progress using programmatic protocol.
  • Ensures the students receive consistent supervision and always provides a safe and supported environment.
  • Tracks attendance daily.
  • Fills out lesson planning form weekly.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism with students and families.
  • Attends regular staff meetings.
  • Supports and participates in family and site-based events.
  • Supports other sites when needed or called upon if staffing constraints arise.
  • Communicates regularly with the Site Coordinator regarding all aspects of the program at the designated site.
  • Undergoes and maintains all assigned health and safety, education, and HR trainings.
  • Participates in professional development enrichment opportunities to enhance student learning.
  • Promotes an inclusive environment of teamwork to ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced/applied in department operations, programs, and services.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must meet school district's requirements for a Paraprofessional (based on district in which job is offered; requirements vary district to district).
  • Experience: 6 or more months working with children preferred.

Decision Making:

  • Specific projects and goals are assigned with some latitude for decision-making and setting of priorities. Supervision is readily available, and work may be checked for accuracy and completeness.

Critical Thinking:

  • Critical thinking involves the analysis of complex facts related to complex situations, requiring the interpretation and comparison of a wide range of options.

Interaction & Collaboration:

  • This position works formally with other individuals and informally among several departments.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

  • More than 50% of daily assignments involve prolonged physical effort.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to solely manage a classroom of up to 20 students.
  • College units in education, recreation, child development desired.
  • Understanding of behavior management and effective disciplinary techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills.
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, child-focused, and wanting to make a difference in children's lives.
  • Ability to meet state-specific requirements; Fingerprint LIVE SCAN, CPR/FA, Medical Certificate/TB test, Mandated Reporter training.
