Job summary

YMCA of Springfield is seeking a Group Leader to supervise a group of children in our after-school program, ensuring a high-quality experience aligned with YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

You will lead structured activities, follow safety procedures, and engage with kids daily while collaborating with teammates. The role emphasizes customer service, role modeling, and readiness to complete mandatory trainings within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old; preference for 18+.
• Two years of prior childcare experience or equivalent education preferred.
• Complete onboarding process within designated time.
• Have leadership competencies in identified key areas.
• Ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach.
• Preference for knowledge of and experience with diverse populations.
• Must complete required trainings within 60 days, including CPR, first aid, Living Our Cause, DCFS Mandated Report, IL Gateway Registry modules.

Responsibilities

• Always demonstrates responsibility for the safety and well-being of all kids in the program; follows emergencies, incident reporting, child abuse prevention, and YMCA procedures.
• Provides high level customer service while dealing with YMCA members, guests, and staff.
• Implements assigned program activities and ensures they are delivered in a high-quality manner.
• Assists in maintaining program areas and reports maintenance issues; keeps areas clean.
• Participates in daily huddle with team.
• Is a positive role model for kids in the program.
• Actively engages with kids in all activities.
• Other duties as assigned to meet program needs.
