Job summary

The Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc. is seeking an After School Educator to support youth learning and development in a safe, engaging setting.

This 10-month, part-time position offers 25 hours weekly (Mon–Fri, 1pm–6pm) with a $18.00 hourly wage and potential continuation into the summer camp program. Responsibilities include leading enrichment activities, promoting positive youth development, maintaining records, and collaborating with families and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of direct experience working with children under 13.
• Associate degree in Childhood Education, Social Work, Recreation, or related field preferred.
• Medical clearance and TB test required before start and every 2 years.
• OCFS background clearance (fingerprints, health forms) required.
• CPR/First Aid certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and monitor youth development programs across multiple domains.

After School Educator

As an After School Educator, you will play an important role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where youth can build skills, develop positive relationships, and explore new interests. Working in a mission-driven nonprofit organization, you will lead and implement activities focused on academic enrichment, leadership, health and wellness, arts and culture, career exploration, community engagement, and personal development.

This is a 10-month position, with the opportunity to continue working full-time in the organization's summer camp program from June through August following successful completion of the 10-month program. Work Schedule:

Essential Job Duties

• Lead, implement and monitor youth development programs, including components related to leadership, health and wellness, artistic/cultural development, academic enrichment, college/vocational exploration, civic engagement/community service, and personal/social development.


• Promote cooperative learning skills among youth participants.


• Maintain and secure accurate student data records for assigned group of youth.


• Encourage parent/guardian participation in classroom activities and other related events/functions.


• Prepare, produce and maintain daily lesson/activity plans for programming.


• Gather all instructional materials required for the classroom curriculum.


• Implement evidence-based conflict resolution and negotiation strategies to support participating youth.


• Attend mandatory professional development workshops, trainings, and conferences; some mandatory trainings may occur on weekends and school breaks.


• Understand and implement project-based learning, effective classroom management, and positive youth development concepts.


• Research and apply youth development strategies to enhance program implementation.


• Document occurrences throughout the program day and promptly notify supervisor.


• Monitor and reply to agency emails on a daily basis, ensuring receipt of pertinent documents and correspondences.


• Serve as a positive role model for youth.


• Maintain positive and professional interactions with key stakeholders of the program and the agency.


• Review and have a basic understanding of School-Age Child Care regulations.


• Develop a comprehensive understanding of Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations required of a staff member working in a NYS-registered program.


• Complete at least 15 hours of training within the first six (6) months of employment and a minimum of thirty (30) hours of training in a 2 (two) year period, and all other trainings mandated by NYS OCFS.


• Work as part of a team to plan special events based on program themes.


• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent with at least one (1) year of direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.


• Preferred: Associate Degree in Childhood Education, Social Work, Recreation, or a related field with no additional experience required.


• Complete and submit medical clearance, a tuberculosis (TB) test, and all required health forms from a licensed medical provider prior to starting work in the program and every two (2) years thereafter.


• Must be cleared through the OCFS background clearance process (fingerprints, TB test, health forms, etcetera).


• Certification in CPR/First Aid is highly desirable.

• Experience creating and implementing lesson plans that incorporate youth voices, covering areas such as social-emotional development, physical activity, leadership, health & wellness, STEM, arts and culture, or other positive youth development competencies.


• Knowledge of youth developmental stages and experience developing youth programs.


• Understand the development of curiosity, initiative, and problem-solving skills in youth.


• Work collaboratively as a team member in an after-school program setting, coordinating with multiple staff members.


• Adherence to the agency’s dress code for youth workers.


• Provide support for management policies and procedures and show cooperation with other employees.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.


• Demonstrated ability to relate and interact with diverse youth coming from different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.


• Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
