Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking an EDEP Assistant for Murray Elementary for the 2026-27 school year. This part-time role supports the After School program, working 4 hours per day, 10 months per year, with a starting date immediate.

The EDEP Assistant works with the Head Teacher to implement activities, supervise students, and maintain a safe, engaging environment after school. Candidates should have a high school diploma and CPR readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to learn specialized instructional/management techniques for disabled students.
• Willingness to obtain CPR certification and maintain it.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with daily tasks.
• Instruct students in preplanned activities as required.
• Assist with activities and events as needed.

The EDEP Assistant assists the Head Teacher and/or Teacher as necessary in support of the After-School program. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the teacher with daily tasks;
• Instructs students in preplanned activities as required;
• Assists with any activity and special event as needed;
• Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with ASEP staff and school staff;
• Exhibits positive public relations;
• Upholds school rules, policies, and procedures;
• Prepares and distributes snacks as needed;
• Provides care for students in ALL EDEP venues (Student Holiday, Spring Break and Inclement Weather programs)
• Participates in EDEP programs (After School Program, Student Holiday, Spring Break and Inclement Weather programs) as assigned
• Maintains a safe work environment;
• Establishes and maintains high standards of behavior;
• Attends required and assigned training sessions;;
• Exhibits dependable work habits;
• Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; willing to learn specialized instructional/management techniques employed with disabled students; ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; must be high school graduate or hold equivalence of a high school diploma and be willing to seek and maintain CPR certification.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including basic keyboard and filing training. Training in Basic First Aid.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required; Occasional travel with students on field trips; Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs an other mechanical devices may be required; Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; Daily personal and close contact with children and ASEP staff members required to provide an effective learning environment.
