Job summary

Prospect Schools in Brooklyn is seeking a dedicated dance instructor for after-school programming. You will lead instruction in dance styles from beginner to intermediate, evaluate student progress, choreograph routines for recitals, and foster a fun, creative learning environment.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in one or more dance disciplines, and strong classroom management and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; certifications or credentials in dance disciplines are preferred.
• Availability to work late afternoons and/or evenings (typically 4:00–6:00 p.m., with program hours between 3:00–6:30 p.m.).
• Experience in one or more dance disciplines and prior experience working with youth in a classroom, enrichment, or after-school setting preferred.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and group facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt instruction for diverse learners and follow program schedules.
• Passion for dance education and youth development; candidates qualified to lead instruction in multiple activities are preferred. Must successfully complete required background checks and clearances.

• Plan and facilitate engaging lessons and enrichment activities, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs and interests.

• Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and character development.
• Prepare classrooms and materials, maintain attendance records, and assist with daily program setup and clean-up.
• Implement safety protocols, including emergency procedures and evacuation drills.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust activities to maximize student engagement and outcomes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the After-School Program Director.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly qualified specialist to provide instruction in Dance. We are looking for a dance teacher who specializes in one or more of the following competencies: lead instruction in various dance styles and methodologies from beginner to intermediate level, evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement, choreograph routines and select music for recitals and concerts, and provide a fun and creative learning environment.

$25 – $35 per hour
