Job description

The Coach facilitates safe, organized, engaging, and educational expanded learning activities for students at an assigned WFIT program site. Working under the direction of the Site Coordinator, and receiving daily direction or support from the Lead Coach when assigned, this frontline, student-facing role supports daily program implementation through lesson planning, activity facilitation, student supervision, attendance documentation, and positive relationship-building with students, families, school personnel, and site staff. This role supervises students and program participants only; it does not assign, evaluate, discipline, or supervise staff.

The Coach supports WFIT's mission of preparing young people for fit and fulfilling lives through Moving, Modeling, and Mentoring. At each site, Coaches deliver daily programming, Lead Coaches model and support Coach practice and provide coverage, and Site Coordinators lead the site and are accountable for its results; together, they ensure a safe, high-quality program for every student.

Key Responsibilities
Program Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans, submitting them for review as directed, and facilitate daily academic, enrichment, physical activity, wellness, and youth development activities that are safe, age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with WFIT program goals, monthly themes, student needs, and site expectations.
  • Support student participation, culminating showcases and performances, and participant recruitment and retention; participate in professional development, apply feedback, and reflect on daily implementation to improve activities, transitions, and program flow.
Student Supervision & Safety
  • Maintain active, attentive supervision during program hours, transitions, activities, meals/snacks, arrival, and dismissal; monitor gate entry, check-in, release, and pick-up areas when assigned.
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations for behavior, participation, safety, and respect, and promote students' physical, social, and emotional well-being; respond calmly to student needs, conflicts, injuries, or incidents and promptly elevate them to the Site Coordinator or Lead Coach.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain and submit accurate daily student attendance, lesson plans, incident information, and required documentation by established deadlines; assist with attendance reconciliation and follow-up as directed.
  • Comply with WFIT policies, site procedures, LAUSD/Beyond the Bell expectations, grant requirements, and mandated training; promptly report incidents, safety or facility concerns, parent concerns, and supply needs to site leadership.
Teamwork, Family & School Relationships
  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator, Lead Coach, other Coaches, school personnel, and WFIT team members; follow site schedules, assigned roles, and communication protocols; and attend staff meetings, trainings, and required program events.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students, parents/guardians, and school staff; support family engagement and outreach when assigned; and direct requests requiring a site-level decision to the Site Coordinator or Lead Coach.
Special Events & Site Readiness
  • Support special events, field trips, showcases, and family engagement activities, including preparation, setup, supervision, cleanup, and follow-up.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces; use WFIT materials, equipment, supplies, and uniforms responsibly and only for approved purposes; and promptly report damage, loss, or repair needs.
Performance Expectations
  • Students are actively supervised, safe, and engaged, and daily activities are prepared, organized, age-appropriate, and aligned with WFIT program goals.
  • Attendance, lesson plans, incident information, and required documentation are accurate, timely, and complete, and concerns are communicated promptly to the Site Coordinator or Lead Coach.
  • The Coach demonstrates reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and teamwork, and consistently maintains the distinction between supervising students and supervising staff.
Reporting Structure
