Chess Wizards, Inc. in Martinez, CA is seeking enthusiastic instructors to lead after-school chess classes for elementary students. This role offers a flexible side-hustle with a typical schedule of 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM on weekdays and a pay range of $55–$75 per class.

You’ll use our curriculum, foster a fun learning environment, and travel to local schools as needed. Ideal candidates have experience teaching or coaching children, a reliable vehicle, and a positive, kid-friendly demeanor.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals; able to explain piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics in an age-appropriate way.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life problem-solving.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students; guide activities and keep students engaged.
• Use our structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
