Armed Services YMCA San Diego is seeking an After-School Bus Driver on a part-time, on-call basis. You will operate the school bus safely, conduct daily checks, and ensure student safety during pickups and drop-offs.
The role requires a Class C CDL with a Passenger Endorsement, CPR/First Aid, and a clean driving record. The position is non-exempt and hourly, with responsibilities including maintaining order on board and reporting maintenance needs.
Under the direction of the Program Director of the Family and Youth Enrichment department, the School Bus Driver is primarily responsible for safely operating the school bus on an on‑call basis depending on the needs of Armed Services YMCA San Diego programs and events. The school bus driver must ensure that the bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the scheduled timetable, maintain order and security on the bus, and obey all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct.
The driver must also deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving and addressing complaints about schedules, quality of service, and any other concerns. Complaints must be noted, reported, and handled respectfully and professionally.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Evening and weekend work may be required.
This position may provide information to donors, potential donors, program participants, volunteers, partners, ASYMCA SD Board, staff, and others from the community.
No supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum: At least two years of school bus driving for a school district or another youth‑related organization (e.g., YMCA, Boys & Girls Club). Mandatory twenty hours of classroom instruction and twenty hours of behind‑the‑wheel bus training. Any combination of educational and work experience that is equivalent to the stated minimum requirements qualifies for consideration.
Standard office equipment and machines, such as a telephone, a personal computer, a multifunction copier, and a 10‑key calculator. School bus dashboard control center, bus engine compartment, whole unit school bus knowledge.
The position requires a Class C Commercial Driver’s License with the Passenger Endorsement issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, a current CPR / First Aid Certificate, and a Medical Examiner’s Health Certificate. Reliable transportation and a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the organization’s insurance carrier standards, are also required.
