Job summary

Henry Street Settlement is seeking an Activity Specialist Support Staff for after-school and camp programs in the Lower East Side. The role focuses on supporting neurodivergent youth in grades K-8, delivering hands-on enrichment, and maintaining a fun, safe learning environment.

The ideal candidate brings passion for youth development, 2+ years in related settings, and ability to adapt activities to diverse needs. The position is onsite with varied afternoon shifts and occasional camp hours.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or HSE required; college enrollment preferred in Education, Social Work, or Sociology.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in after-school, camp, or youth program supporting neurodivergent youth.

Responsibilities

• Activity Support: Create a positive environment for recreational, academic, and artistic activities.
• Classroom & Behavior Management: Maintain effective management and positive behavior guidelines.
• Youth Development & Engagement: Foster safe, engaging learning and collaboration among students.
• Event & Exhibit Preparation: Prepare participants for culminating events and presentations.
• Collaboration & Teamwork: Co-teach with activity specialists and support group activities and field trips.
• Flexibility & Adaptability: Be able to work with all grades K-8 and multiple locations.
