Job summary

Andover Public Schools' Recreation Division is seeking Assistant Group Leaders for the Kid Care after-school program at five elementary schools. You will supervise and engage kindergarten to 5th-grade children, support activities, and help create a welcoming environment.

Shifts are weekdays after school with possible extra hours during school vacations and summer; ideal for students and others seeking experience in education, sports, recreation, childcare, and community work.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Interest in working with elementary-aged children in a group setting.
• Responsible, dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
• Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with children, families, and coworkers.
• Experience working with children through babysitting, volunteering, coaching, tutoring, camps, or similar activities is helpful but not required.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain certification if required.
• Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervising and engaging elementary-aged children in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
• Help lead age-appropriate games, crafts, recreational activities, and enrichment opportunities under the direction of program staff.
• Support homework time, snack time, outdoor play, and other components of the daily program.
• Serve as a positive role model and encourage respectful, appropriate behavior.
• Maintain awareness of participants, assist with attendance and headcounts, and promptly report safety or behavioral concerns to a Group Leader or supervisor.
• Help prepare, organize, and clean program spaces, equipment, and activity materials.
• Communicate positively and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Follow all program policies, procedures, and emergency protocols, and assist in responding to incidents and emergencies as directed.
• Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
