Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach African American Studies in the Social Sciences Department at Malcolm X College. The ideal candidate will design courses, engage students with diverse perspectives, and align instruction with approved syllabi.

Strong communication skills, online teaching experience via Zoom, and familiarity with Brightspace LMS are preferred. Salary ranges from $58,000 to $65,000 annually, with benefits per the applicable collective bargaining

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in African American Studies or related discipline is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students are required.
• Experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Brightspace or similar LMS is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote active student participation.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters curiosity and problem solving.
• Employ formative and summative assessments to ensure learning outcomes are met.
• Hold weekly one-hour student conferences for each course section.
• Maintain attendance records and grades and provide leadership in student communities.
