Job summary

Seagate Technology invites a Summer Intern to contribute to AFM software and data analytics development. You will work with AFM scientists, materials specialists, and software engineers to translate measurement needs into software requirements and experimental plans.

The role focuses on real-time acquisition and analysis of AFM parameters, probe wear detection, and data visualization. You will document results, validate approaches, and present findings to technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong programming and software-development skills using Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience with data structures, algorithms, signal processing, data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, real-time data acquisition, or application development through coursework, research, internships, or projects.
• Ability to organize, process, visualize, and interpret image, spectral, sensor, or time-series data.
• Experience writing maintainable code and using good development practices such as version control, documentation, testing, and structured debugging.

Responsibilities

• Translate measurement needs into software requirements and experimental plans with AFM scientists and engineers.
• Identify tapping-mode AFM signals sensitive to probe sharpness; develop algorithms to detect probe degradation.
• Develop software to acquire and analyze AFM parameters in real time and notify when probe replacement is needed.
• Build data-processing and visualization methods for AFM topography, instrument signals, and time-series data.
• Create data pipelines, feature-extraction methods, and statistical analyses with decision thresholds.
• Validate software outputs against probe condition and changes in tip radius through experiments.
• Document software, methods, and results; present findings to stakeholders.
