Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) is seeking a Housing Specialist I to provide customer service, determine eligibility for subsidized housing programs, and perform annual recertifications. The role requires independent judgment to interpret data and ensure compliance with program guidelines.

The position will base in Silver Spring, MD, with travel between offices as needed and an emphasis on accurate documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1 year experience in affordable housing or customer service.
• Certification for Housing Choice Voucher Program within 6 months of hiring.
• Knowledge of Housing Choice Voucher regulations and landlord-tenant laws.
• Strong computer and communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Interview, certify and recertify families.
• Negotiate rent amounts with landlords.
• Provide customer service to internal and external customers.
• Market the housing choice voucher program.
• Respond to inquiries from applicants and tenants.
• Coordinate move-ins and resident transfers with staff.
• Orient applicants and tenants to HOC rules and community regulations.
• Prepare reports as required by the supervisor.
• Monitor clients for compliance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
