Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL is seeking an experienced TIG welder to join its Aerospace Manufacturing team. You will perform manual TIG welding on aerospace-grade stainless steel, aluminum, and Inconel, read engineering drawings, and prepare parts for post-weld inspection.

This role requires 3+ years in DC/AC TIG welding, precision measurement with micrometers and calipers, and a commitment to quality and safety in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience with DC- and AC-TIG welding of metals (stainless, aluminum, Inconel).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and follow work instructions precisely.
  • Proficient use of micrometers, calipers, and tape measures for dimensional verification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual TIG welding on aerospace-grade materials and assemble parts per drawings.
  • Prepare weld surfaces and perform post-weld inspections per process requirements.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and workspace in a safe, organized manner.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimize welding processes and tooling.
  • Follow quality control procedures and documentation for traceability.

This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Perform manual TIG welding on aerospace-grade stainless steel, aluminum, and Inconel hardware using manual and/or automatic welding equipmentExecute weld preparation tasks including cutting, blending, chamfering, and cleaning of parts and assemblies to ensure proper fit and surface condition prior to weldingSupport and prepare hardware for post-weld inspection processes such as dye penetrant testing and chemical treatmentsPerform periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systemsAccurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and Pi tape to verify dimensional conformance and weld qualityInterpret and work from engineering drawings and specifications to determine proper layouts, joint configurations, and welding sequencesReview, edit, and follow Work Instructions for welding and assembly operations, ensuring documentation accuracy and traceabilityDesign, support, and fabricate tooling and fixtures to support welding and assembly operationsCommunicate with engineers on design concepts, offering practical suggestions and feedback for design improvementsMonitor and verify weld quality in accordance with statistical process controls or other established quality control proceduresWork safely and responsibly within an industrial manufacturing environmentPerform other duties as assignedOverhead Crane operationMinimum Qualifications:3+ years' experience with DC- and AC-TIG welding of metals including stainless steels, aluminum, Inconel alloysAbility to interpret engineering drawingsExcellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to document and maintain accurate recordsAbility to use precision hand tools, standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipmentFamiliar with use of personal computersPreferred Qualifications:Knowledge of AWS D17.1 aerospace welding specsFamiliarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safetyKnowledgeable in the use of 3-D CAD tools (CREO is preferred), and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standardKnowledge of drawing review, scheduling and work order systems, inventory and various issue tracking systemsExperience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardwareMachining experienceCrane Operator/Lift Coordinator ExperienceCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
