Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Weather Technician/Observer for the Space Force Range Contract. The role involves supporting upper air and surface observations, operating the VSFB Weather Observatory, and performing balloon observations at 0000 and 1200 UTC.

You will report to the Weather Systems Manager and assist with launch operations, including after-hours and weekend support as required. Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, a current Surface Observation certification or two years

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Surface Observation certification or 2+ years DoD/FAA/NWS METAR experience.
• Maintain required certifications while employed.
• Vision 20/20 or correctable to 20/20.
• Complete observer qualification-training program per AFMAN 15-111/15-124 and related directives.
• Pass a closed-book qualification exam demonstrating accurate observations and transmission schedules.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Report to Weather Systems Manager and follow directions.
• Support upper air observations using computer data and platform; approx. 3 hours per observation cycle.
• Operate RWO during airfield hours (Mon-Fri, 0730-1700) with after-hours/weekend support as needed.
• Perform daily upper air balloon observations at 0000 and 1200 UTC.
• Conduct weather observations at VSFB stations 24/7 in support of NAOC.
• Support launch operations including potential scrubs; adhere to shift/rest limits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
