Job summary

ALOFT AeroArchitects seeks a structural engineer to design, analyze, and certify aircraft structural components for various projects. You will support design, installation, substantiation, and FAA certification tasks, coordinating with DER/ODA and performing hangar-level engineering support.

The role involves evaluating design criteria, applying FEM and analytical methods, and preparing clear documentation to meet regulatory requirements. Travel to support hangar operations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 8 years of practical experience in a related role.
  • Knowledge of classic structural analysis methods and practical application.
  • Basic knowledge of FEM software (FEMAP/Nastran NX preferred).
  • Experience with aircraft modification and/or interior completions (STC packages) preferred.
  • Experience with airframe repair practices preferred.
  • Working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD/Catia V5).
  • Knowledge of vibration/fatigue analysis is preferred.
  • Experience with installation/modification practices and 14 CFR Part 23/25/27/29 requirements preferred.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (metallic and composite) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate technical, cost, value, and safety considerations into product definitions and document results.
  • Contribute to structural design within a multi-discipline team.
  • Define structural design requirements for new tasks using appropriate criteria.
  • Assess design concepts with FEM and analytical methods to ensure margins of safety for compliance.
  • Demonstrate compliance with 14 CFR Parts 23/25/27/29 through analyses and reports.
  • Prepare structural analysis reports to document substantiation for FAA approvals.
  • Coordinate with DER/ODA personnel to obtain concurrence during design.
  • Provide aircraft hangar support and coordinate necessary FAA approvals for repairs.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and revisions to support production in hangar/backshops.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete training requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by team.
