Avion Solutions Inc., an employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for an Aerospace Structural Engineer to support the Propulsion Systems Readiness Directorate division. This position is based in Huntsville, AL.
Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Provide engineering support for engine systems and subsystems relating to helicopters, unmanned air vehicles, and fixed wing platforms.
- Provide written recommendations regarding field inquiries concerning serviceability of engine systems and subsystems and interpretation of airworthiness requirements.
- Review test plans, test reports, and analyses concerning compliance with specifications and/or qualification requirements.
- Support test witnessing, evaluation of test results, and post-test inspections and recommendations regarding test coverage and hardware condition.
- Review design changes and engineering change proposals, documenting airworthiness concerns.
- Support failure investigations and validation/verifications of procedures.
- Provide technical and project engineering support for engine improvements under the Component Improvement Program.
- Support Deficiency Reporting, including disposition of exhibits and review of investigation findings.
- Support depot and repair activities, including maintenance, overhaul reviews, and Product Verification Audits (PVAs).
- Assist with spares procurement, including review of Source Approval Requests (SARs) and commerciality decisions.
- Provide technical support for safety issues related to propulsion engine systems, including hydromechanical and electronic controls.
- Support Product Lot Testing (PLTs) by reviewing drawings and inspection criteria.
- Review quality escapes and Manufacturing Review Boards (MRBs), documenting airworthiness concerns.
- Provide technical input for Foreign Military Sales support.
- Document processes and methodologies for design and airworthiness qualification of propulsion systems, generate briefings and documentation, and provide analyses for government use to standardize and improve the airworthiness process.
Required Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 10+ years in structural engineering and analysis.
- Extensive experience in design and analysis of transmissions, housings, shafting, couplings, and bearings.
- Experience in classical and finite element stress analysis.
- Proficient with FEA programs (ANSYS, NASTRAN, etc.) and analysis tools like MS Excel, Python, MATLAB.
- Experience with fatigue analysis, failure analysis, and material properties.
- Experience with bolted joints, fatigue testing, and mechanics of materials.
- Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret Security Clearance and able to travel 15% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of DoD software programs such as PDREP, TAMMS-A/MCDS, ETMs/IETMs.
- Ability to interpret technical data and prepare documentation.
- Experience with safety management plans and risk assessments.
