Job summary

PPG Aerospace in Huntsville, AL seeks an Aerospace Structures Engineer, Stress Analyst, to provide stress analysis support for transparencies products. The role is based at the Huntsville site and reports to the Senior Manager, Project Development.

You will work with customer authorities, design teams, and regulators, employing FEMAP and NX Nastran to deliver accurate analyses and engineering reports for milestone reviews and proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience; Master's Degree with 3+ years' work experience.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in Finite Element Modeling and structural analysis of aircraft structures.
  • Experience with formal engineering reporting and documentation systems for aerospace environments.
  • Experience with FEM/FEA software required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a government secret clearance.
  • Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refugees are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customer stress analyst authorities to understand airframe structural requirements.
  • Lead initiatives to improve plant goals and manufacturing metrics; support production safety.
  • Represent PPG Aerospace at PDRs and CDRs as the structural SME.
  • Perform classical structural analysis and FE methods.
  • Proficient in FEMAP and NX Nastran for linear and nonlinear static analyses.
  • Communicate results to internal teams, customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with customers and design teams to develop structurally sound window designs.
  • Prepare technical reports and project status updates for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and technical planning for new business.

Job description

As an Aerospace Structures Engineer, Stress Analyst , you will do stress analysis support of all Aerospace Transparencies products. You will provide stress analysis and evaluations to assure that products and transparencies programs will profitably meet performance expectations defined by the customer, regulatory agencies, and the design engineering staff. You will sit at our Huntsville, AL site and reports to the Senior Manager, Project Development.

Main Responsibilities
  • Frequent collaboration with customer stress analyst authorities to develop a detailed understanding of airframe structural requirements.
  • Lead all aspects to improve plant goals and manufacturing/operational metrics, and being a technical resource to production personnel to ensure working conditions meet all safety requirements.
  • Be the structural subject matter expert (SME) representing PPG Aerospace at program milestone events, such as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
  • Proficient in classical structural analysis and finite element methods.
  • Proficient in the use of FEMAP and NX Nastran, linear static solution and nonlinear static solution.
  • Communicate stress analysis study results within PPG, to customers, and to governmental regulatory agencies.
  • Work with PPG customers, the transparencies design engineering group, and other teams to develop structurally sound aircraft window designs.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, engineering assessments, and project status updates to leadership, customers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and technical planning activities for new business opportunities.
  • Ensure all analyses and engineering activities comply with company standards, aerospace regulations, and applicable industry specifications.
  • Improve projects focused on engineering processes, analytical methods, quality, efficiency, and knowledge sharing across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience; Master's Degree with 3+ years' work experience.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in Finite Element Modeling and structural analysis of aircraft structures.
  • Prior experience with formal engineering reporting and documentation systems and experience with training in positions directly related to finite element stress analysis in an aerospace environment sought after.
  • Experience with commercial FEM/FEA software required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a government secret clearance.
  • Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refugees are eligible to apply.
Desirable skills
  • Experience supporting aerospace certification programs for commercial, military, or business aircraft.
  • Knowledge of FAA Part 23, Part 25, military standards, or equivalent aerospace regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with FEMAP and NX NASTRAN.
  • Experience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analyses.
  • Familiarity with composite materials, laminated glass, acrylics, polycarbonates, and transparent aerospace structures.
