Job summary

Sierra Space in Colorado is hiring a Manager, Software Engineer to lead one or more software teams responsible for end-to-end delivery of mission-critical aerospace software. You will mentor engineers, implement disciplined processes, and ensure compliance with DO-178B/C and other aerospace standards while guiding budgeting and tool strategy.

The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring strong communication and a focus on quality and security in software

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Several years of software engineering experience, with a significant portion in leadership.
• Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, DevOps and ability to tailor these processes for aerospace projects.
• Experience with software lifecycle management, version control, and CI/CD pipelines for secure delivery.
• Familiarity with aerospace software standards (DO-178B/C, NASA-STD-7150.2, NASA-STD-8739, RTCA/DO-278, The Aerospace Corporation's ToR-2011/2023) and quality standards (AS9100, ISO, CMMI).
• Ability to translate functional plans into operational development/testing/deployment procedures.
• Experience supervising multiple software engineering teams and engineers.
• Excellent communication for diverse stakeholders.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct one or more software engineering teams for design, development, testing, and delivery of mission-critical software.
• Ensure adherence to aerospace quality, safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor engineers, set performance expectations, and drive accountability and continuous improvement.
• Manage budgets, resource allocation, and tooling investments to maximize efficiency.
• Communicate project status, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders to enable informed decisions.
