Job summary

UDRI's Air Vehicle Optimization Group in Dayton, Ohio seeks a Research Aerospace Engineer to advance conceptual vehicle design, propulsion and power system integration, and multidisciplinary analyses for AFRL contracts at Wright-Patterson AFB.

The role involves developing software tools, performing finite element sizing, CFD and aeroservoelastic analyses, and collaborating across mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering and computer science, with emphasis on communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of propulsion systems, aeroelasticity, experimental aerodynamics, numerical analysis, CFD, orbital dynamics
  • Basic experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, SolidWorks, OpenVSP, XFOIL, Cradle CFD, C++/Ansys or other similar programming languages
  • Experience with developing 3D printed parts
  • US Citizenship required for research contracts with U.S. federal government

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, maintain, and deploy software infrastructure and engineering analyses in support of aerospace research
  • Provide support for airframe propulsion and power systems integration
  • Perform finite-element-based structural sizing and multidisciplinary analyses
  • Contribute to conceptual vehicle design for Modular/Scalable UAS portfolio
  • Conduct aeroservoelastic design optimization and aircraft trajectory analysis framework
  • Collaborate across Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science and Mathematics groups
