Job summary

Muon Space is hiring a Mechanical Quality Engineer to own quality across machined parts and assemblies for aerospace hardware. You will lead inspection, testing, nonconformance, and continuous-improvement initiatives in a fully onsite San Jose office.

The role requires strong GD&T expertise, dimensional inspection experience, GMP/ISO knowledge, and collaboration with design, manufacturing, and test teams. Travel up to 40% may be needed for audits and FAIs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or manufacturing.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% to supplier sites for audits, FAIs, and corrective action support.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to read mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection methods and equipment (calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gauges, optical/laser scanning).
  • Knowledge of GMP, part & document control, and defect management processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with data management and reporting software, including MES & PLM.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar.
  • Experience in a cleanroom manufacturing environment related to aerospace or engineering, or a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection and testing of satellites and sub-assemblies down to component-level hardware per drawings and GD&T.
  • Lead nonconformance root-cause analysis and disposition corrective actions; coordinate with in-house machine shop, SQEs, and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain Quality Management System documentation, standards, work instructions, and internal specifications.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across inspection, nonconformance, and assembly processes.
  • Ensure conformity to aerospace standards and regulatory requirements including space environment considerations.
  • Collect and analyze test and inspection data to monitor quality trends; generate reports.
  • Provide GD&T training and support to team members; maintain core processes and procedures.
  • Participate in supplier audits and follow-up on corrective actions.
