Job summary

Karman Space & Defense seeks a Painting Technician in Salt Lake City area to prepare launcher tubes and apply primers and coatings to aerospace components. You will inspect surfaces, mask areas, mix materials, and ensure proper film thickness and cure times.

The role requires reading engineering drawings and process specs, working with PPE, and ensuring quality documentation. Prior coating experience is preferred; the job offers a vendor-friendly environment and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Reading engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specs.
• Experience with surface preparation, masking, mixing, and spray application of primers/paints.
• Ability to safely operate painting and surface-prep equipment.
• Maintain quality, productivity, and documentation per procedures.
• Work safely with PPE and hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Prepare launcher tubes and components for primer, paint, and coatings.
• Operate surface-prep equipment to clean, abrade, or profile surfaces.
• Inspect surfaces for cleanliness and condition before coating.
• Mask components per drawings and work instructions.
• Mix primers, paints, coatings, reducers per specs.
• Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings with spray equipment.
• Maintain coating coverage, film thickness, cure times, and environmental controls.
• Identify coating defects and perform touch-up and rework.
• Clean and maintain spray guns and prep equipment.
• Complete production travelers and manufacturing paperwork accurately.
• Follow PPE, chemical-handling, and safety requirements.
• At advanced levels, assist setup, troubleshooting, and training.
