Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is hiring a Painting Technician in the Salt Lake City area. You will perform surface preparation, masking, mixing, application, inspection, and finishing on launcher tubes and related components to deliver aerospace coating systems.

The role involves following drawings and specifications, using PPE, and ensuring proper film thickness and cure requirements. Advancement includes setup, troubleshooting, and mentoring less-experienced painters.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience with surface preparation and spray coating.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work instructions.
• Safe operation of painting and surface-prep equipment.
• Ability to work with PPE and hazardous materials.
• Teamwork with Production, Quality, Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Prepare launcher tubes for primer, paint and protective coatings.
• Operate surface-prep equipment to clean, abrade or profile surfaces.
• Inspect surfaces for cleanliness and condition before coating.
• Mask components per drawings and travelers.
• Mix primers, paints, and coatings per specs.
• Apply coatings with manual spray equipment and controlled techniques.
• Maintain coating coverage, film thickness, and cure requirements.
• Identify coating defects and perform touch-up or rework as needed.
• Clean and maintain spray guns and related equipment.
• Complete production records and manufacturing paperwork accurately.
