Job summary

Hytek Finishes is seeking an Aerospace NDT Inspector (Trainee) for the 2nd shift in Kent, WA. Trainees will become certified NDT Inspectors across Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, and Nital Etch with on‑the‑job training and FAA program participation.

The role starts as Inspector Trainee with on‑the‑job training and moves toward full certification after Level III approval; training on 1st shift may be provided. This is a full-time evening shift position in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Pass Written and Practical examinations to become Hytek certified NDT Inspectors.
  • Must join FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program and pass pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Work with experienced Inspectors and NDT Level III to complete tasks and prioritize.
  • Follow technique cards and customer POs; ensure Operator Self-Verification has occurred.
  • Review paperwork and Operator Self-Verification; notify QA if errors.
  • Prepare parts; use proper tooling and fixtures.
  • Familiar with QA requirements and rework procedures.
  • Understand engineering drawing notations; support continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet customer demand.
  • Cross-train in other production areas as needed.

Job Overview

Title: Aerospace Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector - 2nd Shift

Reports to: Shift Supervisor or Value Stream Manager

Location: Kent, WA – onsite

Type: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Schedule: 2nd Shift (Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.), training on 1st Shift

Applicants must provide a copy of their NAS‑410 Level II Certificate(s) in Magnetic Particle and/or Liquid Penetrant, including all employer‑provided On‑The‑Job (OJT) hours upon submission of our qualification process.

Salary Range

$21.80 – $32.80 per hour. The pay range and total compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, your relevant experience level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other employees. Position Summary

This is an Inspector trainee position in our Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) department. Employees in this position will become certified as an NDT Inspector. The individual in this role will be considered an Inspector Trainee until certified by the Level III NDT Responsible in each of the three disciplines of NDT Inspection performed at Hytek (Magnetic Particle, Liquid Fluorescent Penetrant, and Nital Etch) and are able to perform the work independently. On‑the‑job training, as well as study time, is granted to all Inspector Trainees. All NDT Inspectors are required to join the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program. NDT Inspectors perform operations in accordance with Military and OEM specifications.

FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requires an initial pre‑employment drug test including a screen for THC, subject to quarterly Drug & BAT testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with experienced Inspectors and NDT Level III Responsible to complete work and prioritize tasks.
  • Follow technique card, customer Purchase Orders, and instructions from experienced NDT Inspectors; and confirm that Operator Self‑Verification inspection has occurred.
  • Perform general review of paperwork and Operator Self‑Verification inspection of job to ensure all previous operations were completed. Notify supervisor and Quality Assurance if any errors.
  • Prepare parts prior to operations; use proper tooling and fixtures when applicable.
  • Be familiar with Quality Assurance requirements and rework procedures.
  • Be familiar with engineering drawing notations.
  • Develop new product processing and identify areas for improvement.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to drive positive change in productivity, delivery, and service.
  • Work and coordinate with other departments in order to meet customer demand.
  • Other duties as assigned, including cross‑training in other Production areas as workflow demands.
Qualifications
  • Ability to pass Written and Practical examinations prior to Hytek certifications. All Trainees are required to become NDT Certified Inspectors through Hytek's training program.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and positively influence others.
  • Must be a self‑starter, able to work both independently, as a team, and with customers (both internally and externally).
  • Excellent accuracy with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve tactical and strategic problems and issues arising in this position.
  • Ability to use/learn Lean Tools and techniques to solve tactical and strategic problems and issues arising in this position.
  • Required to join the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program and pass an initial and annual Industrial Eye Exam.
  • Must have a regular and dependable attendance record.
  • Ability to read/write/communicate in English.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. An export license will be required to work in all areas of the facility.
Education & Experience
  • 1–2 years in a manufacturing environment – a plus.
  • Candidates must have previous NAS‑410 Level II certification in Fluorescent Magnetic Particle (Stationary Horizontal Wet Bench) and Fluorescent Liquid Penetrant (Methods A & B) in the Aerospace Industry, including well‑documented OJT training hours. Candidates may still apply if they have completed one Level II area such as Magnetic Particle or Liquid Pen and can show OJT hours.
  • In process of NDT certifications for Magnetic Particle, Penetrant Inspection.
Essential Mental/Physical Demands

  • Ability to grasp frequently.
  • Ability to see/hear/feel constantly – hearing protection required when working in the area.
Work Environment
  • Hearing protection required in certain areas.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Temperature fluctuations based on outdoor conditions.
  • PPE required: safety glasses/goggles, aprons, rubber boots, gloves, respirator (provided by company).
