HX5 is currently seeking a mid-level aerospace engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
The selected candidate will support an established team that is providing mission design support for Space Reactor-1 (SR-1) Freedom, where SR-1 Freedom is the first fission-powered interplanetary spacecraft that will demonstrate nuclear electric propulsion in deep space. SR-1 Freedom is a pathfinder mission that will lay the groundwork and develop technologies for future applications that include surface power on the Moon and Mars.
Primary responsibilities include data analysis and synthesis to support the mission design and trajectory optimization team. The candidate should be knowledgeable about numerical methods and proficient with their application to facilitate solutions. In addition, software development will be necessary when the software packages in use are deficient in required functionality.
This effort is monitored by the Mission Architecture and Analysis Branch at NASA GRC, which provides mission, system, and architecture performance and feasibility analysis for a range of projects including launch vehicle, in-space propulsion, and space craft systems.
Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree with a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
