Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking a Materials Engineering Technician to anchor mechanical testing capabilities in our lab. You will perform a wide range of tests on metals, polymers, composites, and ceramics for aerospace applications, ensuring data integrity and compliance with standards.

You will manage test setups, calibrations, and reporting, while maintaining a safe, organized facility and contributing to engineering decisions with precise data.

Qualifications

• 3+ years operating mechanical testing equipment in a lab.
• Experience testing metals, polymers, composites, and ceramics.
• Strong knowledge of ASTM E8, D638, D3039, C1161 and specimen geometry requirements.
• Attention to data entry, traceability and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate universal testing machines for tensile, compression, flexural, shear and fatigue tests.
• Follow ASTM, ISO and internal standards for aerospace applications.
• Prepare specimens with precise tolerances and finishes prior to testing.
• Select, install and align grips/fixturing for complex test setups.
• Record, process and report test data to design engineering teams.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment.
