Ultra Maritime in the United States is seeking a skilled tooling technician to support planning, testing, and fabrication activities for precision tools and fixtures. The role involves building and repairing custom machine shop tools based on blueprints, and setting up equipment to exact tolerances.
The ideal candidate has an apprenticeship or technical training (3–5 years), a related associate degree, and familiarity with CAM software.

Supports tooling engineers with planning, testing and related activities within assigned projects
Buil ds and repairs custom machine shop tools using machining equipment and measuring instruments. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify prototypes, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and molds. Calculates the dimensions and tolerances required to set up the machine tools. Operates lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines to produce tools.
Apprenticeship 3–5 years, hands-on training combined with classroom instruction; often the gold standard
Technical/trade school certificate 6 months–2 years Focused CNC/machining programs, often at community colleges
Associate degree (e.g., Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Tech) 2 years Broader theory plus hands-on; helps with advancement.
Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) prepregs laminates, structural components. Fiberglass (GFRP) E-glass, S-glass composites. Radomes, fairings, interior panels. Aramid composites Kevlar-reinforced. Impact-resistant structures. High-performance thermoplastics PEEK, PEI (Ultem), PTFE (Teflon), Torlon (PAI). Bushings, brackets, seals, insulators. Phenolics & G-10/FR-4. Laminated composites. Electrical/thermal insulation parts. Honeycomb core Nomex, aluminum honeycomb. Urethane and related materials.
Experience. Preferably certified with: NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) — the leading industry credential, with certifications in areas like CNC milling, turning, and measurement. AS9100 / GD&T training — geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) is critical for aerospace. CAM software proficiency (Mastercam, Esprit, NX)
Expected Compensation: The expected compensation range for this role is $65,312.00 - $81,536.00. Please note this represents the expected range. Ultra Maritime considers multiple factors when determining final compensation, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, a candidate’s relevant experience and education, certifications and training, as well as current business and market conditions.
