  • Read blueprints and tolerances to determine dimensions and setup requirements.
  • Ensure parts meet specifications and comply with ISO/AS9100 procedures.
  • Support productivity improvements and maintain 6S in the area.
  • Train new personnel and assist in other machine center areas as needed.

Overview/Qualifications/Responsibilities

Position Overview:

Join our team and help us build in 2026!In this role, you’ll work as part of a team to machine tight tolerance parts to customer specification. You and the team will work together to hit production targets for the shift and provide feedback on ways to make the operation safer and more productive every day!

The Machinist position is responsible for the set-up and operation of various types of CNC machine shop equipment inclusive of, but not limited to, CNC lathes, CNC mills, etc. to produce complex, tight tolerance products. The individual in this role will actively participate in documentation creation and review, solving machine and part problems, maintaining a high productivity rate and constantly striving to improve productivity. Additionally, they will advise on, set-up, operation, and maintenance. The successful candidate must be an individual who can multi-task and perform various machine shop related activities, in a manner that complies with all company requirements and ISO/AS9100 standards with little supervision.

Shift:

The Blacklick, Ohio facility operates on a 4x10 schedule with two shifts:

1 st shift: Monday thru Thursday, 5am-3:30pm

2 nd shift: Monday thru Thursday, 3pm-1:30am; this shift qualifies for a shift differential

What you bring to the table:

  • Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by:
  • Readingwork orders and specification sheets before starting the machine.
  • Loading and unloading parts.
  • Ensuring proper tooling for each machine.
  • Changing fixturesand other work holding devices
  • Removing and installing tools from tool magazines
  • Knowing different types of mills, drills and other tooling.
  • Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance products. Adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Ensure all parts are to the required specifications by:
  • Reading blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
  • Complying with all work instructions.
  • Following and maintaining ISO/AS9100 and Schafer procedures.
  • Completing Schafer’s quality certification requirements for assigned area.
  • Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
  • Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines.
  • Measuring dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Reducing downtime of machines setups
  • Getting computer setup ready by preparing tooling, fixtures, materials gages, etc
  • Maintaining the 6S program in assigned area.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
  • Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
  • Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
  • Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvements.
  • Resolving problems.
  • Performing other job-related duties as required.
  • Helping evaluate job applicant’s knowledge for the cell prior to Schafer hiring.
  • Training new personnel in the operation of assigned machines.
  • Assisting and/or training in other machine center cell areas as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities(basic requirements)

  • Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 40 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.
  • Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills, in English, necessary to complete forms and take messages in a legible, accurate manner.
  • Two-year certification from technical school.
  • Minimum four years of experience in set-ups and running of production.
