Job summary

Astrion at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL seeks a Laboratory Engineering Specialist for the 2nd shift. The role involves providing detailed instructions for precision cleaning, decontamination, refurbishment and testing of components submitted to the Component Refurbishment Department.

Work is performed onsite at KSC. The position requires a GED or high school diploma with college-level engineering/science study and experience in precision cleaning of aerospace fluid systems.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus two years of college-level engineering or scientific study.
• Two or more years of experience in precision cleaning of aerospace fluid systems or components.
• 0 years’ experience with completed education requirements or 4 years relevant experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
• Extensive knowledge in mechanical and electro-mechanical fluid component assembly and testing.
• Experience reading drawings and procedures and using cleanroom tools and testing instruments.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and provide detailed instructions to accomplish contractor cleaning, refurbishment, and decontamination requests.
• Prepare maintenance manuals and operating procedures for testing of components and systems.
• Generate work orders for tasks or special projects.
• Interface with contractors and government personnel; advise on precision cleaning and testing requirements.
• Disposition discrepancies not requiring specification changes.
• Assist in procurement of parts for refurbishment.
• Ensure safety, environmental, and quality standards compliance.
• Perform tasks as directed by supervision.
