Job summary

Valor Healthcare seeks a Medical Director - Flight Surgeon to support NASA Occupational Health Services. The role combines aerospace medicine with clinical leadership to safeguard astronauts and aerospace personnel, overseeing medical programs, risk management, and health promotion for spaceflight missions.

Applicants must hold MD/DO with aerospace medicine board certs, FAA Senior Aviation Medical Examiner designation, and substantial ICU/trauma experience; compensation is competitive and DOE.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with medical license in California.
• Board certification in Aerospace Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
• FAA Senior Aviation Medical Examiner designation.
• ACLS and BLS certifications.
• CAOHC certification and NIOSH Spirometry course.
• FMCSA Medical Examiner registration.
• Extensive hospital/inpatient experience.
• Experience with EMR systems like Epic.
• Knowledge of CPT/ICD coding.
• Aerospace medicine knowledge useful.

Responsibilities

• Provide aviation medical examinations and certifications per NASA FAA standards.
• Develop health and wellness plans for spaceflight environments.
• Manage medical emergencies with advanced airway management.
• Oversee EHR documentation ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Conduct aerospace medicine clinical research.
• Coordinate discharge planning and post-acute care for astronauts.
• Support telehealth initiatives for remote missions.
