Job summary

Howmet in Fullerton, CA is seeking a Cost Accountant to support the Plant Controller and manage day-to-day manufacturing cost accounting activities, inventory valuation, and month-end close. The role focuses on standard costing, burden rate management, and financial reporting to drive cost control and profitability.

You will collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance, maintain standard costs in the ERP, perform variance analyses, and contribute to continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience in aerospace, automotive, medical, or industrial manufacturing.
• Proficient with MS Office and ERP systems (QAD/Syteline experience preferred).
• Authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship offered.

Responsibilities

• Cost accounting and manufacturing cost control for the plant.
• Inventory valuation and reconciliation between subledger and general ledger.
• Assist month-end close, inventory adjustments, and E&O reserve calculations.
• Develop and maintain labor and overhead burden rates; support cost allocation.
• Conduct variance analysis (PPV, usage, labor efficiency, overhead).
• Provide actionable financial reporting and performance metrics to management.
• Assess production efficiency, capacity, and cost drivers for profitability.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance on cost improvements.
• Manage inventory cycle counts and ensure policy compliance.
• Monitor inventory valuation accuracy and E&O exposure.
• Maintain inventory control tools and standard costs in ERP.
• Review high-value or unusual inventory transactions for proper treatment.
• Prepare product line P&L and customer profitability analyses.
