Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is a leader in rapid design, development, and production of space and defense solutions. We seek a Painting Technician to prepare launcher tubes, apply primers and coatings, inspect surfaces, and ensure quality through the full coating process.

Responsibilities include masking, mixing, spray application, and documentation while adhering to safety and process requirements in a high-precision environment. Experience in aerospace or defense coating is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with surface preparation, masking, mixing, and spray application of primers, paints, or coatings.
• Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications.
• Ability to safely set up and operate painting and surface-prep equipment.
• Ability to work safely with PPE and in environments with paints, solvents, and chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare launcher tubes and components for primer, paint, and protective coatings as directed.
• Operate surface-prep equipment to clean, abrade, or profile surfaces before coating.
• Inspect surfaces for cleanliness and condition prior to coating application.
• Mask components as per drawings and work instructions.
• Mix primers and coatings according to approved ratios and specs.
• Apply coatings using approved spray equipment and techniques.
• Maintain coating coverage, film thickness, and cure requirements.
• Identify coating defects and perform touch-up or rework per procedures.
• Document production travelers and inspection records accurately.
• Follow PPE and hazardous-material safety rules throughout the process.
