Job summary

AST SpaceMobile is seeking a highly experienced CAD Design Checker to join our Spacecraft Engineering team. You will verify drawings and 3D models across satellite programs, applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5 as the final quality gate for flight hardware and ground support equipment.

You will mentor junior designers, maintain drafting standards, and collaborate with systems, structural, thermal, manufacturing, and QA teams to resolve design issues early in the lifecycle. U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical/aerospace engineering
• Minimum 8 years in mechanical design checking or senior drafting
• ASME Y14.5 GD&T expert; GDTP certification preferred
• Experience with MBD/PMI and aerospace manufacturing processes
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM like Windchill or Teamcenter

Responsibilities

• Review and check drawings and 3D CAD model‑based designs for accuracy and ASME Y14.5 GD&T compliance
• Verify that GD&T callouts are unambiguous and manufacturable within satellite constraints
• Help perform and verify tolerance stack‑up analyses for flight‑critical interfaces
• Evaluate drawings for compatibility with space‑qualified fabrication processes (CNC, composites, chemical etching, surface treatments)
• Issue redline markups and NCRs with clear, actionable disposition for design engineers; track resolution to drawing release
• Support design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) by auditing drawing packages for ICDs and drawing integrity
• Maintain and evolve internal drawing standards and GD&T training materials
• Mentor junior designers on aerospace drafting best practices
