Lockheed Martin Space in Sunnyvale, CA seeks an Aeronautical Engineer to join the FBM Missile Flight Sciences team. Qualifications

  • Prior work experience or familiarity with aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, CFD, or programming.
  • Familiarity with thermal analysis and commercial tools such as Thermal Desktop.
  • Understanding of inviscid vs. turbulent flows.
  • Experience with CFD grid generation (2D/3D).
  • Experience with multiple CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, Star-CCM+, GASP).
  • Ability to correlate test data with models and present conclusions.
  • Strong mathematical, analytic, and data processing skills.
  • Programming in MATLAB/Python; good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to obtain Top Secret clearance; US citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fluid dynamic analysis using modeling and simulation across fidelity levels.
  • Modernize legacy aero environments to inform missile hardware design.
  • Conduct post-test analysis for various projects.
  • Own computational modeling and simulations from development to documentation.

Responsibilities

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Aeronautical Engineer to join the FBM Missile Flight Sciences organization in Sunnyvale, CA! This position will have the exciting opportunity support the Aerothermal team, and the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Using various modeling & simulation methods and techniques to perform fluid dynamic analysis of varying levels of fidelity
  • Support the modernization of legacy aero environments to inform missile hardware design
  • Support post-test analysis for various test projects
  • Ownership of computational, physics-based modeling & simulations from start to finish (development, assessment, results & documentation)
  • Work and interact with multiple engineering fields across multiple sites
  • Present key findings and results to internal and external customers & stakeholders
  • Provide recommendations to support peer and customer reviews
  • Provide documentation and recommendations to data packages to support key discussions, present analysis data to engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and program milestone design reviews

Designs, develops, and tests a variety of power plants, aircraft, missiles, and parts, taking into consideration the most efficient use of the natural laws affecting flight. Establishes structural specifications, performs stress analysis, and conducts performance tests.

Basic Qualifications
  • Prior work experience or familiar with one or more of the following topics: aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, or computer programming
  • Prior work experience or familiarity with thermal analysis and commerical analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop
  • Understanding of inviscid vs. turbulent flows
  • Experience with grid generation using Cadence Pointwise
  • Experience or familiar with generating CFD grids (2D or 3D, structured or unstructured)
  • Experience with multiple commercial CFD analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Siemens Star-CCM+, FUN3D, GASP)
  • Experience correlating test/experimental data with numerical model data and drawing conclusions
  • Strong mathematical, analytic, and data processing skills
  • Programming experience in multiple languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including MS Office proficiency
  • Willingness/ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired Skills
  • Experience with PTC Creo
  • Experience with Linux environments and using High-Performance Computing systems
  • Academic knowledge or work experience with gas dynamics, rarified gases, turbulence modeling, hypersonic flows, or aeroheating
  • Strong technical writing proficiency
  • Knowledge or experience with testing & instrumentation including test procedure development, instrumentation definition, test direction, and post-test model correlation
  • Experience with modern collaboration tools, such as Jira and Confluence

Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

  • Active or Current Top Secret clearance
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $88100.00 - $163700.00
