Job description

Step into the Lead: A Day in the Life You roll onto the site ahead of your crew, open HCSS HeavyJob to plan the day’s labor, production, and materials, and lead a quick pre-task hazard assessment and toolbox talk. With plans and specs in hand (TxDOT, City of Austin, COSA, and civil drawings), you verify intersection measurements, check bolt patterns, level mast arms, and coordinate rigging. You direct bucket truck operations and aerial work, ensuring every lift follows OSHA rules and company safety protocols. Through the morning, you supervise pole and mast arm placement, guide signal head mounting, oversee wire pulls, and manage controller cabinet installs. You route conduit, confirm grounding, and handle terminations for power and detection. You consult with inspectors and project stakeholders, resolve issues in the field, and keep communication flowing with internal leadership. By afternoon, you’re troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning signal systems, then redlining as-builts and lining up final inspections to verify MUTCD compliance. Before wrapping up, you validate crew timekeeping, update equipment/tool records, and support company initiatives in safety, training, efficiency, and performance improvement. And yes—other duties as assigned can pop up, and you handle them with poise.

What You’ll Tackle
  • Interpret complex signal layouts, plans, and governing specifications (TxDOT, City of Austin, COSA, and civil engineers).
  • Lead intersection layout, bolt pattern verification, mast arm leveling, and rigging operations.
  • Manage bucket truck activities and enforce aerial work safety standards.
  • Supervise pole/mast arm placement, signal head mounting, wire pulling, and controller cabinet installation.

  • Coordinate with inspectors and stakeholders; troubleshoot, test, and commission signal systems.
  • Coordinate final inspections, redline as-builts, and verify MUTCD conformance.
  • Partner with Safety Officers to uphold fall protection, grounding, and lift operation standards.
  • Represent the company professionally in meetings and communications.
