Job summary

NextEdge in Nashville, TN is seeking an aerial lineman to install and activate aerial cable and fiber, perform maintenance and new construction tasks, and complete as-built maps. The role requires comfort working at heights, bucket truck operation, and the ability to travel within the surrounding region.

Responsibilities

• Install aerial cable and fiber to customer specs, including splicing and activation.
• Perform maintenance and new construction tasks (risers, anchors, strand, pole transfers, tower work).
• Complete as-built maps to customer specs.
• Assist with underground digging, pedestal setting and cable pulling as needed.
• Operate and inspect aerial bucket trucks and ladders; perform night splicing when required.

Summary/Objective

Aerial lineman responsible for completing assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner by specified deadlines while safely operating appropriate equipment to achieve results as dictated by the scope of work and customer expectations while maintaining a high quality of work.

Aerial lineman responsible for completing assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner by specified deadlines while safely operating appropriate equipment to achieve results as dictated by the scope of work and customer expectations while maintaining a high quality of work.

Essential Functions

• Installation of aerial cable and fiber to customer specifications including splicing and activation.
• Complete various maintenance and new construction tasks such as risers, down guy, overhead guy, strand and hardware, anchor installation, pole transfers, tree trimming, wreck out, vertical bonds, snowshoe installation.
• Complete as built maps to customer specifications.
• Some underground hand digging, setting pedestals, and pulling cable will be required.
• Work alongside, train and delegate duties to ground hand.
• Operate and daily inspection of aerial bucket trucks and ladder.
• Attend safety meetings and follow safety rules while working.
• Follow all rules and procedures in company handbook.
• Perform night splicing and activation when needed.
• Flexibility to work on-call rotation or emergency situations when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

• 1-2 years of experience in cable TV field operations including cable/fiber construction practices and technical knowledge for activation and repair of plant preferred.
• Prior experience climbing utility poles is highly preferred.
• Comfort and proficiency working at heights, including from a bucket truck and on utility poles, is essential for success in this role.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• This is a DOT regulated position and it requires a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) to be obtained every year during employment and a DOT Physical every 1-2 years.

Work Environment

• This position is based in our Nashville, TN office and requires regular travel throughout the surrounding region.
• Able to work in all non-climate-controlled environments and all-weather conditions except for unsafe or extreme weather conditions

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• Flexibility to work beyond 40 hours per week and weekends and work on-call rotation.

Travel

• Limited travel may be required to other projects.
