Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies, LLC, based in Mount Laurel, NJ, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the MDAM team. The role is fully on-site and requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

You will design, develop, test, and maintain software across the full lifecycle while leading features and ensuring quality and security. Ideal candidates have 7+ years of experience and strong skills in C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript, with Linux, Git, SQL/PostgreSQL, and container tech

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
7+ years of professional software development experience.
Experience leading software projects or teams.
Strong knowledge of multiple programming languages (C++, Java, Python, JavaScript).
Experience with Linux-based environments and version control (Git).
Experience with SQL/PostgreSQL and container technologies (Docker/Podman).
Ability to travel up to 10% and collaborate across teams.

About The Role:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be part of our Missile Defense Analysis and Modeling (MDAM) team based in Mount Laurel, NJ.

Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven architectures, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission-critical results.

Clearance & Location Requirements:

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
This is a fully on-site position, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

Provide technical direction and input in design reviews, code reviews, and system-level engineering discussions.

Support deployment, modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
Create and review technical documentation, system designs, and operational procedures.
Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through sustainment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Who You Are (Required):

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
7+ years of professional software development experience.
Previous experience in a technical leadership role on a software project.
Strong experience developing software in one or more languages such as C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
Experience working in Linux-based environments.
Experience supporting integration, test execution, and release activities across teams.
Strong experience with SQL and relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL).
Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Podman, or OCI-compliant containers.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to travel up to 10% as required.

What Makes You Stand Out:

Previous professional experience with the Aegis Weapon System.
Advanced academic degree in a STEM field
Experience supporting development, modernization, or sustainment of complex software systems.
Experience with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
Experience working in Agile development environments.
Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and secure software development practices.
Experience with cloud-native technologies, containerization, or platform engineering concepts.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and stakeholder communication.
Demonstrated ownership, initiative, and ability to independently drive technical tasks to completion.

Pay Range*: $135,000 - $231,000 or $164,000 - $273,000
