Job summary

Jobtailor in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a dedicated Victim Advocate to provide information on the criminal justice system, assist victims through the process, accompany them to court when needed, and connect them with community resources. You will manage caseloads, prepare reports, and collaborate with Victim Assistance Specialists to ensure timely support; bilingual English/Spanish is valued.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience with victim advocacy, social work, crisis intervention, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, family studies, psychology, or other closely related behavioral or social science field.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a current, valid AZ Driver's License at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information on the criminal justice system, victims’ legal rights, and protections.
  • Provide information on the criminal justice process.
  • Attend court proceedings with, or on behalf of a victim, providing support and guidance.
  • Identify victims’ resources, assess practical needs, and make referrals to social service agencies.
  • Assist the prosecutor with case turn-downs whenever practical.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling.
  • Research case status using computer databases.
  • Manage large caseloads and document information.
  • Prepare reports and present findings.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and crime victims.
  • Comply with all Victim Services mandated requirements.
  • Document actions, rights, and services in PbK.
  • Record and enter case management activities in PbK.
  • Submit timely monthly reports to the assigned supervisor.
  • Oversee and manage assigned cases.
  • Provide community outreach through presentations, partnerships, and finding additional resources.
  • Participate in and mentor VOCA interns.
  • Receive referrals or victims from Victim Assistance Specialists when Advocate-level guidance is needed.

Job description

Requirements
  • Two years of experience with victim advocacy, social work, crisis intervention, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, family studies, psychology, or other closely related behavioral or social science field
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a current, valid AZ Driver's License at time of hire
  • Selected candidates must complete and pass a criminal background check
  • Prospective employees may be tested for illegally accessed drugs after an offer and before placement
  • Experience in case management valued
  • Experience working in a criminal justice system valued
  • Public service experience working in an advocate-related capacity valued
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish valued
