Job description

ABOUT onX

We’re a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.

We’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.

Our business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.

We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.

Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

onX is seeking an Advocacy Marketing Manager who will bring our Access & Stewardship work to life through integrated marketing that builds awareness, strengthens brand trust, and inspires customers to engage with onX’s work to protect and expand outdoor recreational access.

In this role, you’ll translate Access & Stewardship priorities into compelling campaigns, storytelling, and customer experiences across channels. You’ll own complex advocacy marketing initiatives from development through launch and measurement, bringing strong judgment, creativity, and a deep understanding of advocacy marketing to the work.

As part of the Brand Programs team, you’ll work closely with the Access & Stewardship Program team, Brand Creative, PR, Vertical Marketing, Product, and other partners to connect this work to the broader onX brand.

This role will report to the Integrated Brand Campaign Director, who owns broader brand campaign strategy, prioritization, and sequencing across parent brand and A&S marketing.

WHAT YOU’LL DO Essential Job Duties & Functions

Advocacy Marketing & Campaigns

  • Partner with Brand and Access & Stewardship leadership to help shape the marketing approach for A&S priorities, then develop and lead integrated marketing plans across relevant channels, owning execution from development through launch, optimization, and measurement.
  • Translate complex program priorities and subject-matter inputs into clear, compelling customer-facing campaigns, messaging, briefs, and experiences.
  • Identify and test new approaches to advocacy storytelling, channel activation, and customer engagement, using insights and results to strengthen future work.
  • Extend and adapt Access & Stewardship stories across onX brand and vertical marketing efforts, balancing program needs with broader brand priorities.

Storytelling & Brand Stewardship

  • Develop credible, engaging storytelling that helps customers understand and act on issues related to public land access and responsible recreation.
  • Steward the Access & Stewardship brand identity, messaging, and design guidelines, ensuring consistent expression within the broader onX brand while identifying opportunities to evolve the work.
  • Write, edit, and guide content across web, in-app, campaign, editorial, partner, and other customer-facing channels.
  • Partner with Brand Creative to develop high-quality assets and storytelling that are accurate, distinctive, and on-brand.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Build strong partnerships across Access & Stewardship, Brand, PR, Vertical Marketing, Product, Geospatial, and external partners to bring advocacy marketing initiatives to market.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination and proactively navigate dependencies, risks, and trade-offs to keep work moving and deliver strong outcomes.
  • Partner with Access & Stewardship and Brand leadership to understand priorities, timing, and context and translate them effectively into marketing initiatives.
  • Bring clarity and recommendations to cross-functional partners, resolving routine alignment and execution issues while escalating broader strategic or program-level decisions when needed.

Measurement & Reporting

  • Recommend and track success measures for advocacy marketing initiatives, aligned with broader Brand measurement priorities.
  • Monitor campaign performance and use insights, customer response, and partner feedback to improve future work.
  • Communicate performance, insights, and recommendations to partners and Brand leadership, connecting marketing outcomes to Access & Stewardship program goals and broader business objectives.
  • Surface emerging risks, opportunities, and trade-offs early, using data and insights to inform recommendations.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Five (5) or more years of marketing experience, including developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns from concept through launch and measurement.
  • Demonstrated experience in cause-based or mission-driven marketing, with an understanding of how to engage audiences around complex issues and inspire action.
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and creative ideation skills, with the ability to develop compelling customer-facing content and partner effectively with creative teams.
  • Experience translating complex or nuanced subject matter into clear, credible, and engaging marketing, with strong judgment around accuracy, brand integrity, and stakeholder sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex initiatives, balance multiple priorities, and move work forward in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience building alignment and influencing partners across different functions and areas of expertise.
  • Strong integrated marketing experience, including comfort developing marketing for social channels.
  • Experience using campaign performance, audience insights, and feedback to evaluate effectiveness and inform future marketing decisions.

You’ll partner closely with others to solve complex problems and build solutions that scale across teams and platforms.
