The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Advocacy Communications Lead, Field based out of our National Center office! This position can be remote.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, grant-funded opportunity, current funding is through 06/2028.

Expected pay range will be $85,000 to $90,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.

This individual will be responsible for the development of communications resources in support of priority public policy initiatives. Works closely with Advocacy and Marketing Communications staff at the national and region levels on efforts to raise awareness of the American Heart Association’s public policy priorities. Consults on the development and execution of advocacy communications strategies and tactics to advance American Heart Association state and community advocacy campaigns working through paid, earned, owned and organic media channels.

Responsibilities
  • Leads development of strategy and tactics for specific public policy priorities at the state and community levels to build support among key audiences for advocacy campaigns.
  • Manages the creation of messaging, materials, toolkits, and additional resources that communicate key messages to priority audiences.
  • Collects and packages real-world stories from those who would benefit from public policy change(s) to provide compelling, digital-friendly assets that drive awareness and support of evidence-based policy solutions.
  • Plans and creates messaging and media training for Association staff, volunteers, and partners.
  • Works directly with state and market-based Marketing Communications and Advocacy staff to provide technical assistance in support of active Advocacy campaigns.
  • Serves on internal workgroups as appropriate. Represents the Association in national and regional meetings with partner organizations as appropriate.
  • Coordinate materials production and dissemination with Advocacy and Marketing Communications teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Three (3) years minimum prior related experience (5 years preferred)
  • Experience developing communications about public policy at the federal, state or community level
  • Experience in media relations, message and materials development, advertising, spokesperson training
  • Comprehensive understanding of the legislative process and the role of public policy
  • Comprehensive understanding of grassroots advocacy campaigns
  • Comprehensive writing, presentation, and training skills
  • Ability to work with youth and engage communities of color
  • Ability to travel up to 20% local and overnight stay
Compensation & Benefits
