Job summary

BDO USA, P.A. is seeking a Cyber Security and Compliance Intern to learn the basics of information and data risks while supporting client projects and internal initiatives.

You’ll work with experienced professionals on compliance projects, cyber maturity assessments, and other cyber tasks, helping operationalize client processes, policies, and controls. The role emphasizes hands-on learning with PCI, NIST, CIS, and HIPAA frameworks, including risk assessments, reporting, and data-flow

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program is required.
• Pursuing a degree in Technology, Computer Science, Information Assurance, Business Management, Accounting or Finance is preferred.
• Prior internship or related experience in data management, technology, compliance, or business management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with security assessments and readiness reports (PCI/NIST/CIS/HIPAA).
• Document client meetings and socialize outcomes with the team.
• Manage tasks for cyber security and compliance projects.
• Help develop client reports with findings and recommendations.
• Develop and update data flow diagrams.
• Conduct research on market options or solutions.
• Budget time and monitor multiple project tasks and risks.
• Travel as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cyber Security and Compliance Intern will learn about the basics of information and data risks, will be engaged to assist with client projects, and internal initiatives. The Intern will work alongside more experienced professionals where they will conduct a variety of compliance projects, cyber maturity assessments, and other cyber related tasks. The intern will be involved with operationalizing client processes, policies, and controls.

Job Duties

• Assists with conducting security assessments, readiness reports, and other related tasks that may include Payment Card Industry (PCI); National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); Center for Internet Security (CIS); The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
• Documents client meetings to socialize with the team following the meeting
• Manages individual project tasks related to cyber security and compliance projects
• Assists the team with developing client reports, including findings and recommendations
• Assists with developing data flow diagrams and maintains updates of diagrams over time
• Conducts research for client projects to assist in providing up to date options or solutions available on the market
• Budgets time and assists with multiple project requests simultaneously, as well as the ability to monitor project tasks and risks
• Travels required as necessary
• Other duties as required

Education

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, required
• Currently pursuing a degree in Technology, Computer Science, Information Assurance, Business Management, Accounting or Finance, preferred

Experience

• Prior internship, externship, or professional experience offering experience with data management, technology, compliance, and/or business management, preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• N/A

Software

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, required
• Microsoft SharePoint, preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Visio, preferred
• Experience with Google, GoogleSuite, and other platforms, preferred
• Experience using AI platforms, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr

Colorado Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Illinois Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Maryland Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Massachusetts Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Minnesota Range: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr

New Jersey Range: $38.00/hr - $42.00/hr

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Ohio Range: $33.00/hr - $37.00/hr

Virginia Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Washington Range: $35.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Washington DC Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
