Job summary

BDO USA is seeking a Cyber Security and Compliance Intern in the McLean, VA area to learn and assist on client projects, internal initiatives, and operationalize client processes, policies, and controls.

You will work with experienced professionals on compliance projects, cyber maturity assessments, and related tasks across PCI, NIST, CIS, and HIPAA standards. The role requires strong communication, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program
• Pursuing a degree in technology, computer science, information assurance, business management, accounting or finance preferred
• Prior internship, externship, or professional experience in data management, technology, compliance, or business management preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience with SharePoint, Visio, Google Suite, and AI platforms preferred
• Strong analytical and research skills; ability to organize information and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Assists with security assessments, readiness reports and related tasks (PCI/NIST/CIS/HIPAA)
• Documents client meetings and shares with the team
• Manages project tasks related to cyber security and compliance
• Develops client reports with findings and recommendations
• Develops data flow diagrams and maintains updated diagrams
• Researches market options to provide up-to-date solutions
• Budgets time and monitors multiple projects and risks
• Travels as necessary

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cyber Security and Compliance Intern will learn about the basics of information and data risks, will be engaged to assist with client projects, and internal initiatives. The Intern will work alongside more experienced professionals where they will conduct a variety of compliance projects, cyber maturity assessments, and other cyber related tasks. The intern will be involved with operationalizing client processes, policies, and controls.

Job Duties

• Assists with conducting security assessments, readiness reports, and other related tasks that may include Payment Card Industry (PCI); National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); Center for Internet Security (CIS); The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
• Documents client meetings to socialize with the team following the meeting
• Manages individual project tasks related to cyber security and compliance projects
• Assists the team with developing client reports, including findings and recommendations
• Assists with developing data flow diagrams and maintains updates of diagrams over time
• Conducts research for client projects to assist in providing up to date options or solutions available on the market
• Budgets time and assists with multiple project requests simultaneously, as well as the ability to monitor project tasks and risks
• Travels required as necessary
• Other duties as required

Education

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, required
• Currently pursuing a degree in Technology, Computer Science, Information Assurance, Business Management, Accounting or Finance, preferred

Experience

• Prior internship, externship, or professional experience offering experience with data management, technology, compliance, and/or business management, preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• N/A

Software

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, required
• Microsoft SharePoint, preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Visio, preferred
• Experience with Google, GoogleSuite, and other platforms, preferred
• Experience using AI platforms, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr

Colorado Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Illinois Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Maryland Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Massachusetts Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Minnesota Range: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr

New Jersey Range: $38.00/hr - $42.00/hr

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Ohio Range: $33.00/hr - $37.00/hr

Virginia Range: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Washington Range: $35.00/hr - $40.00/hr
