Job summary

Crowley in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Investigator to conduct workplace investigations and provide guidance to managers and staff. You will partner with the HR team to minimize legal risk and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, while coaching on best practices and maintaining a constructive employee relations climate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or a related field; or equivalent combination of post-high school education and experience.
  • 4+ years related work experience in human resources or labor relations providing consultation to managers, employees and/or business partners.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts workplace investigations into misconduct including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and violations of policy.
  • Consults on human resources and labor relations issues for corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Provides training and coaching on employee relations best practices to HR and management.

What You’ll Do

Responsible for conducting workplace investigations and providing employee relations support, thought partnership, and coaching, with the goal of minimizing legal risk for the company and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts prompt, appropriately thorough, objective and defensible workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, including but not limited to harassment, (including sexual harassment), discrimination, retaliation, workplace violence, substance abuse, safety and security violations, and violations of company policy or procedure.
  • Consults and provides guidance on human resources and labor relations related issues for corrective and/or disciplinary actions related to employee conduct.
  • Takes a proactive approach, providing ongoing support, training, and coaching in employee relations best practices and corporate standards to the HR team and may conduct or support management training on employee relations topics.
  • Helps to maintain a positive employee relations climate by facilitating discussions, by providing consistent advice and guidance to managers and employees for problem resolution of work-related conflicts and by using data to implement best practices.
  • Leads, develops and implements streamlined processes for handling all employee and labor relations issues across the enterprise.
  • Secondary duties may include support for the broader Labor and Employee Relations team in support of other performance management related areas, such as grievance or contract dispute resolutions.
Qualifications

Education & Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or a related field; or equivalent combination of post-high school education and experience.

Experience
  • 4+ years related work experience in human resources or labor relations providing consultation to managers employees and/or business partners.
  • Legal or paralegal, ethics and compliance, or law enforcement experience that can be shown as related to conducting investigations will also be considered.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
  • PHR or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)/(SHRM-CP) or other HR or investigation certifications preferred.
  • Experience in NAVEX EthicsPoint or similar compliance hotline tool preferred.
Competencies

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels of the organization. Ability to identify and/or document existing and new processes as well as evaluate their effectiveness, develop improvements and/or recommend changes or alternatives. Advanced knowledge of employment laws and company policies. Ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to the administration of human resources/employee relations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners. Ability to function effectively with, or as part of a team. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to identify and/or document existing and new trends, as well as evaluate and predict the impact on the organization. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and standards of human resources and employee relations. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate effectiveness with conflict management and employee relations administration.
