Position: Lab Automation Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Automation Engineer to join the Automation Core Lab at the Lilly Corporate Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. The successful candidate will have foundational knowledge of state-of-the-art lab automation equipment and experience collaborating with research scientists to enhance workflows through automation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain lab automation equipment, including liquid handlers (e.g., Hamilton), micro-dispensers, plate readers, washers, and robotic workstations. Create methods/scripts, troubleshoot issues, and train users.
  2. Supervise and support a team of automation engineers responsible for equipment installation, maintenance, QC, and script writing.
  3. Collaborate with lab research scientists to optimize research efficiencies via automation process improvements and new technologies.
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in engineering, bio-engineering, or STEM with at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience, or
  • M.S. in engineering, bio-engineering, or STEM with at least 10 years of experience, or
  • B.S. in engineering, bio-engineering, or STEM with at least 12 years of experience.
  • Minimum 3 years industry experience, preferably in biotech/pharma or automation services.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience supervising lab automation engineers.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with automation equipment, scripting, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and operation of integrated robotic systems; experience with BioSero’s Green Button Go software is a plus.
  • Programming skills in Python, Java, C#, VB.NET, or SQL are highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and across disciplines.
