Summary

The Advisor Designated Pharmacy Program, also serving as the pharmacy quality oversight for the designated pharma program is responsible for maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations while overseeing daily pharmacy operations, program performance, quality assurance, and patient safety activities. This role provides leadership across dispensing operations, workflow management, adverse event processes, regulatory readiness, accreditation support, and continuous quality improvement. The position partners with Operations, Analytics, Compliance, Quality, Information Technology, vendors, clients, healthcare partners, and executive leadership to support safe, compliant, efficient, and measurable pharmacy program performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Pharmacy Operations and Program Management
  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations and program activities, including dispensing processes, workflow management, inventory oversight, security procedures, and quality assurance activities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies, procedures, operational standards, program protocols, quality assurance protocols, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Support pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, pharmacovigilance staff, and support personnel, through hiring, onboarding, training, competency development, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Monitor and improve pharmacy operational performance, service levels, quality metrics, and program effectiveness.
  • Support implementation of designated pharmacy programs, technologies, workflows, automation opportunities, client solutions, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies, vendors, client, healthcare partners, and internal business stakeholders.
• Regulatory Compliance and Pharmacy Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with Board of Pharmacy requirements, HIPAA standards, accreditation requirements, contractual obligations, client requirements, and program-specific requirements.
  • Maintain regulatory readiness by supporting Board of Pharmacy inspections, internal audits, external audits, and client or vendor audits.
  • Monitor regulatory, contractual, and program requirements to ensure pharmacy practices, documentation, reporting, and operational controls remain current and compliant.
  • Manage pharmacy audits, inspections, corrective action plans, remediation activities, compliance reporting, and follow-up documentation through closure.
• Clinical Quality and Pharmacovigilance
  • Oversee pharmacovigilance activities, including adverse event intake, triage, documentation, evaluation, escalation, reconciliation, and timely reporting in accordance with applicable regulatory, client, contractual, and program requirements.
  • Ensure adverse events, product complaints, medication errors, and safety-related reports are reviewed for completeness, accuracy, seriousness, expectedness, reportability, and required follow-up actions.
  • Lead or support investigations, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action planning, and continuous improvement initiatives related to adverse events, medication errors, product complaints, and clinical quality trends.
  • Ensure pharmacy staff and applicable support teams receive appropriate training on adverse event identification, documentation, escalation pathways, privacy requirements, and patient safety expectations.
  • Prepare and present clinical quality, pharmacovigilance, and patient safety performance updates to internal leadership, client, vendors, and regulatory or accreditation stakeholders, as needed.

Education and Experience

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree required with an active, unrestricted pharmacist license required
• Five or more years of experience in pharmacy operations
• Working knowledge of pharmacovigilance, adverse event intake, safety reporting, or willingness to complete required training upon hire.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with pharmacy practice, operations, compliance, quality, IT, vendors, clients, and leadership stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex projects, competing deadlines, and operational demands in a fast-paced, regulated environment including analytical thinking and problem solving.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, support staff development, and guide teams through complex or high-priority events.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position is in a typical office environment which requires prolonged sitting in front of a computer. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment including operation of standard computer and phone equipment. May have occasional high stress when dealing with customers/clients. Some travel may be required.
